US Torture of WikiLeaks Accused

23-year-old Bradley Manning is the guy accused by the US Government of leaking a whole lot of embarrassing material to WikiLeaks.

He has been held since July 2010 in solitary confinement 23 hours a day, with no pillow, sheets or personal possessions. He is shackled at all times, and reportedly forced to disrobe on a daily basis. These are the human rights that the US dispenses even to its own. Someone explain to me why they're even fit to have a voice in the international community!

PJ Crowley is a US spokesman with 26 years of service in the US air force, and spoke out against Private Manning's torture. He said, "What is happening to Manning is ridiculous, counterproductive and stupid, and I don't know why the DoD [Department of Defence] is doing it." For that sin, he has had to resign his position.

Meanwhile, President Obama, that bastion of civil rights and freedoms, responded by insisting that he had received assurances that the terms of Private Manning's confinement were "appropriate". So... that's okay then. Marvellous. Fantastic.

The US government... hate it or loathe it -- you can't respect it!
